EMSculpt® is a groundbreaking body contouring treatment that can tighten and tone the abdomen and buttocks without surgery. Unlike traditional fat removal procedures that only focus on extracting unwanted fat, EMSculpt® actually builds underlying muscles through muscle contractions. By building muscle, EMSculpt® can enhance abdominal and buttocks definition while also burning stubborn or diet-resistant fat to achieve a firmer-looking appearance. EMSculpt® uses electromagnetic technology to contract muscles (similar to abdominal crunches). In fact, EMSculpt® treatment can deliver the equivalent of approximately 20,000 crunches or 20,000 squats. EMSculpt® is FDA-approved to treat both the midsection and buttocks – two of the most common “problem areas” for patients. EMSculpt® is completely non-surgical and requires no downtime or recovery following your procedure.

EMSculpt® technology uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic fields (known as HIFEM®). During your procedure, the EMSculpt® paddle is placed onto your skin and held in place by an elastic band. The EMSculpt® device then sends electromagnetic pulses to your muscles, creating muscle contractions akin to an abdominal crunch or squat. These contractions work your underlying muscles, stimulating natural muscle growth. Additionally, your body breaks down fat reserves to supply energy during these muscle contractions, leading to a reduction of unwanted fat around the treatment area.
EMSculpt® is an ideal complement to liposuction techniques, including minimally invasive liposuction procedures like SmartLipo®, VASER® LipoSelection, and SculpSure™. EMSculpt® can also complement skin tightening procedures like BodyTite™. Dr. Levine can combine liposuction for fat removal, skin tightening to firm loose skin, and EMSculpt® to build underlying muscle for substantial body contouring results. Dr. Levine will discuss which specific procedures can best enhance your EMSculpt® results during a consultation at our NYC location.
Ideal EMSculpt® patients include those who are looking to tighten and tone the midsection or buttocks. Patients should be relatively close to their ideal body weight. It is important to remember that EMSculpt® is not a weight loss procedure; instead, EMSculpt® is designed to improve definition and accentuate your underlying musculature. Both men and women are candidates for EMSculpt® treatment. If you have love handles or bulging around your abdomen or buttocks, then you may be an EMSculpt® candidate. Dr. Levine can help advise whether EMSculpt® is right for you.
A total of 4 EMSculpt® treatments are required to achieve optimal results. EMSculpt® treatments last approximately 30 minutes and are scheduled a few days apart from each other. After your 4 EMSculpt® sessions are completed, additional maintenance treatments are recommended to help sustain your EMSculpt® results.
Since EMSculpt® is a non-surgical body contouring procedure, there is no anesthesia required.
EMSculpt® is designed to firm and tone the abdomen and buttocks. EMSculpt® can achieve natural-looking results by building underlying muscle and burning stubborn fat. EMSculpt® patients can begin seeing results within a month of treatment. EMSculpt® results last approximately 4-6 months before maintenance treatments are recommended to further sustain your results. Dr. Levine recommends EMSculpt® patients follow a healthy diet plan and exercise consistently following treatment to accentuate results.
In order to maximize your EMSculpt® body sculpting results, it is important to follow all pre and post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Levine.
Pre-Care
Certain products and supplements should be avoided in the weeks prior to your EMSculpt® procedure, unless medically necessary. By doing so, patients minimize their risk of bruising and swelling. Blood-thinners and medications that contain ibuprofen or aspirin should be avoided. Patients should also refrain from taking multivitamins and herbal supplements.
Post-Procedure
Certain medications, including Tylenol, Bromelain, and Arnica Montana, may be recommended to alleviate pain or discomfort post-procedure. For more details regarding our post-treatment care suggestions, click here.
